Swedish king confirms plans to visit Sochi Olympics

However, he will come not for the opening ceremony but on the second week of the Games

HELSINKI, December 04. /ITAR-TASS/. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has confirmed his plans to travel to the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi in February 2014 to attend the Winter Olympic Games, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said on Wednesday, December 4, winding up her visit to Sweden.

At her meeting with the Swedish monarch, she asked him if he would use the invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the Olympic Games in Sochi.

“Carl XVI Gustaf confirmed that he intended to come. However, he will come not for the opening ceremony but on the second week of the Games,” Matviyenko said.
