KHABAROVSK, November 17, /ITAR-TASS/. The celebrations on the occasion of the Olympic torch relay have ended in the city of Khabarovsk, Russia’s Far East, on Sunday evening. As many as 148 Olympic torch bearers were carrying the symbol of the Winter Olympics through the whole city, passing 27 kilometres. The final venue of the celebrations became Lenin Square, where several thousands of residents from Khabarovsk Territory gathered, the press service of the territorial authorities reported.
At the first stage of the Olympic torch relay in the city of Khabarovsk sport shooting master of sport Andrei Lebedinsky was carrying the Olympic torch. He has won four gold medals at the Paralympics in Atlanta, Athens and Beijing. At the final stage of the relay student of a Khabarovsk higher educational establishment Yekaterina Anisimova was carrying the Olympic torch. She together with Governor of Khabarovsk Territory Vyacheslav Shport lit up the cauldron of the Olympic Flame, which was installed on the stage on Lenin Square.
The governor noted that Khabarovsk Territory had been given a unique opportunity to feel itself in a common team of Olympic athletes. “Prominent athletes and promising young Khabarovsk residents were running in the Olympic Flame relay. This is the recognition of their merits and the encouragement for new victories!” Vyacheslav Shport noted.
The holiday of sport on Lenin Square was continued with a concert. After that the ceremony of putting the Olympic Flame together was held. The Olympic Flame keeper has put the Olympic Flame in a lamp by a piece of Olympic Flame and has put out the Khabarovsk cauldron of the Olympic Flame. The symbol of the Winter Olympics-2014 is being delivered by train from the city of Khabarovsk to the city Birobidzhan, the administrative centre of the Jewish Autonomous Region in Russia’s Far East.
