MOSCOW, November 8 (Itar-Tass) - Russia continues providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian population, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

Many refugees and displaced persons in Syria need foodstuffs and medications. “There are 6.5 million displaced persons in Syria, accoridng to UN data” the diplomat said.

“The Syrian government is exerting effort to render necessary aid to refugees and displaced persons,” he said, adding, “Armed groups in Syria also assume responsibility for the humanitarian situation.”

“Access of humanitarian supplies  to areas, which are under militants’ control has been impeded,” Lukashevich said.

The termination of armed confrontation can resolve humanitarian issues in Syria, the diplomat said.
