MOSCOW, October 31 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has come up with an initiative on informal contacts with representatives of the Syrian opposition in Moscow, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Thursday in an interview with the Russia Today satellite channel.

“We came up with the initiative to hold informal nonbinding contacts with opposition representatives and we’d like to invite our American counterparts and members of Lakhdar Brahimi’s team, as well as - quite possibly - government officials /to Moscow/ so that they would have an opportunity to exchange ideas of some kind here,” Bogdanov said.

He indicated that UN officials are working on a range of documents that might lay the grounds for Geneva-2 conference on settling the conflict in Syria.

“We hope that a big amount of preparations has been completed and we exchanges thoughts and ideas on a number of occasions and we reached a common denominator on many of them,” Bogdanov said. “I mean the format and the venue of the conference and, most importantly, its objective.”

“We don’t have differences on these key issues and we share an approach to them, and the UN representatives are really working now on some of the documents that might lay the groundwork for convening the conference,” he said.
