11 people killed, about 30 injured in series of attacks in Iraq

Three attacks were carried out in one day in different parts of the country

CAIRO, October 25. (ITAR-TASS). — 11 people became victims of a series of attacks in Iraq, 25 were injured, according to law enforcement agencies’ representatives.

A powerful blast hit a busy marketplace in the city of Al-Yousuf south of the Iraqi capital. As a result, five people were killed, 15 were wounded.

In addition, the city of Baquba — the provincial capital of Diyala 60 km from Baghdad — several explosions claimed the lives of four people, including one woman. The bombs were put off in the immediate vicinity of police buildings. 10 people were injured as a result of the attack. So far, it remains unknown if there was any police officer among the deceased or injured.

Meanwhile, south of the town of Baiji, about 200 km from the capital, an Iraqi army patrol was attacked. A roadside bomb killed two soldiers, police reported.

The largest recent double attack took place in Baghdad on October 20. Then a suicide bomber blew himself up in a cafe in El Hamel. Almost at the same time a previously planted homemade bomb was set off. As a result of two explosions 55 people were killed and more than 40 injured.

Iraq is now experiencing an acute political crisis and gets more and more immersed in the sectarian clashes between Shiites and Sunnis. Every day, explosions and attacks by armed insurgents against civilians and security forces hit the country. Many of the attacks are carried out by the local wing of Al-Qaeda.

From the beginning of the year, the country has already lost about 6 thousand people, more than 14 thousand were injured. Only in last month, violence has claimed more than one thousand human lives, and in October - about 500.
