MOSCOW, October 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has met the leaders of Syrian Popular Front for Change and Liberation (PFCL) Qadri Jamil and Ali Haidar, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

“The sides discussed the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic with a special emphasis on the prospects for diplomatic settlement of the Syrian crisis by convening the international conference Geneva-2. Both sides expressed confidence peace settlement was the sole possible way to resolve the crisis,” the Foreign Ministry.

Bogdanov also “briefed the Syrian opposition representatives on the process of practical preparations for the Geneva forum.”

“Our Syrian counterparts were emphatic the future of reformed Syria should be determined within the Geneva-2 forum by all political forces of the country sharing the platform of the Geneva Communiqué released on June 30, 2012, including the PFCL and other politically close structures,” added the Ministry.

“They believe that fundamental negotiations and an intra-Syrian dialogue are the only way to ensure long-term resolution of acute issues on the national agenda that would guarantee respect for the lawful rights and interests of all groups of the Syrian people,” the Foreign Ministry said.
