CAIRO, October 2. (Itar-Tass) – Al Arabia reported that military helicopter has been shot down 200km north of Baghdad by extremist militants. According to Sky News, the aircraft was shot down during a special operation aimed to take over a terrorist stronghold in Tikrit.

The helicopter which transported troops to the battle zone, started taking off, but militants managed to hit it. The aircraft crashed and burned in the desert area; all four crew members perished.

The last few weeks have been particularly volatile for Iraq.

At least 25 people were killed and more than 40 were injured on Monday in the Iraqi capital in a series of terrorist attacks. According to Al-Mayadin TV channel, about nine trucks loaded with explosives detonated in the northern and eastern parts of Baghdad.

Earlier September a series of terrorist acts in Iraq’s capital claimed dozens of casualties.
