Two police officers killed, one injured in militant attack on Sinai

CAIRO, September 30. (ITAR-TASS). - Two police officers were killed and one was injured on Monday in an Islamist attack on the Sinai Peninsula. Al-Mayadin TV channel reports that the policemen were ambushed near the provincial capital of North Sinai - the city of El-Arish. Gunmen opened fire on law enforcement officers and fled in a car.

As the Egyptian security forces noted, military checkpoints in the cities of El-Arish and Sheikh Zuveyd have also been attacked with fire. Five people were injured as a result of the attacks.

After the July 3 overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi by the army of Egypt the situation regarding security escalated. Since then, only on the Sinai Peninsula, where extremist groups intensified their activity after the ex-president’s removal, more than a hundred of security forces officers were killed.
