BEIJING, September 12 (Itar-Tass) - China considers Russia’s initiative on Syria positive and constructive, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said on Thursday.

The Russian initiative will be able to give an impetus to the settlement of the conflict in Syria, the spokesperson said.

“The use of unilateral actions violates international law and the basic principles of international relations. This can further aggravate the situation in Syria and in the Middle East,” the diplomat said.

Russia’s initiative “will help ease tension in Syria and reduce tension of the international community over chemical weapons”, Hong Lei said.

He expressed hope that all parties would be able to use this opportunity.
