MOSCOW, September 11 (Itar-Tass) - Mass media reports saying the session of the U.N. Security Council scheduled for September 10 was postponed on Russia’s initiative do not correspond to reality, Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksander Lukashevich said.

“I’d like to say this information does not correspond to reality. We put forth an initiative on holding such meeting. But it’s the U.N. Security Council that decided to postpone discussions on Syria,” Lukashevich said.

Earlier this week Russia urged Syria to place chemical weapons under international control. “We do not know whether Syria will agree to this, but if such international control over chemical weapons in that country helps avoid the strikes, we will start working with Damascus immediately,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday, September 9.
