ANKARA, September 1 (Itar-Tass) - The Turkish General Staff has tightened up control over the Turkish-Syrian border in connection with the tension caused by the statement of U.S. President Barack Obama about planned military strikes against Syria after consultations with the Congress, Turkish NTV said on Sunday
Among the security measures is concentration of various kinds of Turkish troops and air defence forces. General Staff officers aboard helicopters inspect the border zone of about 900 km. Inspections from the air are conducted also to check combat readiness in Turkish border areas and at checkpoints, where a mass inflow of refugees from Syria is expected in case of strikes.
