UNITED NATIONS, August 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has received the UK-sponsored draft resolution on Syria and will thoroughly consider it to determine its attitude to it, Russia’s permanent mission to the United Nations stated on Wednesday.

“We have received the draft resolution. Russia’s position will be determined after its careful study in Moscow,” the permanent mission said.

On Tuesday, a closed meeting of five countries - permanent members of the UN Security Council: Russia, China, the United Kingdom, the United States and France, was held at the UN headquarters. According to available information, the meeting participants discussed the UK-sponsored draft resolution on Syria, which allows using the “necessary measures to protect the civilian population.” Observers believe that Western countries’ plans to launch missile strikes on Syria are disguised under this wording.

Russia and China, which have the veto power at the UN Security Council, strongly oppose the use of force. The vote on the draft resolution is expected to take place in the coming days.
