MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) - The attempts of a forcible solution in Syria will result in further destabilization of the situation in the country and the region in general, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a telephone conversation with UN and LAS special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. The telephone conversation was held on August 27, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Lavrov noted that a political and diplomatic settlement in Syria has no alternative, underlining that the attempts of a forcible solution will result only in further destabilization of the situation in the country and the region, the ministry stated. The sides agreed that at this critical moment all parties, including the foreign ‘players’, should act with absolute responsibility and should not repeat the mistakes of the past, the ministry reported.

The situation over Syria has deteriorated sharply due to the steps and statements, which several countries had made, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
