Withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan can complicate border situation

YEKATERINBURG, June 26 (Itar-Tass) - The withdrawal of the coalition troops from Afghanistan in 2014 can complicate the situation on the border, head of the Russian Border Guard Service Vladimir Kulishov told Itar-Tass.

“The head of SCO border guard services riveted much attention was to this issue. Really experts fear that the withdrawal of the coalition troops from Afghanistan can pose a threat to the situation on the border. None can rule out that the situation can complicate. In order to prevent this we’ve started elaborating mechanisms, which will allow us to ensure stability in the SCO region and safety of our citizens,” Kulishov said.

In general the discussions lasted for two hours, he added.

“During the discussions, my colleagues said at the moment the situation on the border was predictable. Our forces and means react operatively and curb actions, which can have an impact on security of our countries,” Kulishov said.

Particularly, the SCO border guard services use modern methods to fight terrorism. Special attention is paid to drug trafficking and illegal migration, he said.
