MOSCOW, December 22 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the West was not ready for the military operation in Syria.
Lavrov said Western countries did not insist on the military invasion of Syria.
“I have an impression that none has appetite for external invasion,” the Russian minister told journalists on Saturday. “Even whether I mention my own feelings, it seems to me sometimes that they pray Russia and China to continue imposing sanctions on external invasion,” he said.
“As soon as sanctions are imposed they will start working. And none is ready to act. This is my feeling,” Lavrov stressed.
At the same time, he said, “Our position does not mean that we seek to provoke anyone in order to make them to take a decision – to fire or not, to bomb or not. We are only convinced that the U.N. Security Council should not take ambiguous resolutions especially after the events in Libya.”
