MOSCOW, December 14 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia does not intend to change the country’s position on Syria, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.
“We were never sleeping,” Lukashevich said in retaliation to spokesperson of the US State Department Victoria Nuland’s statement that Russia finally begins to wake up and take the situation in the real way, acknowledging that Bashar Assad’s rule is doomed.
“We have never changed our position and will not change it,” the diplomat said. “Our position remains in force, it remains unchanged,” the spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The current situation in Syria is very tense, he noted. “We are convinced that the confrontation is only leading to a deadlock,” Lukashevich said, adding the opportunities of the Geneva communiqu· should be used fully.
