UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION, September 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov considers responses to terrorists’ provocations unacceptable.

Speaking at the session of the U.N. Security Council devoted to the Middle East on Thursday, Lavrov said, “It is necessary to hinder the path to those who rasp believers’ feelings and put people of different confessions against each other.”

“It is also acceptable to respond to provocations of terrorism that cannot be justified especially when diplomats and the U.N. staff are subject to terrorist attacks,” Lavrov stressed.

Terrorists should be rebuffed anywhere and double standards should be excluded, the Russian minister said. “The latest spiral of tension in the region, the attacks on foreign embassies in certain countries and the death of American diplomats in Syria prove once again that the uncompromising fight against terrorism is indispensable. It is important for terrorists, who are trying to use the transformations for their purposes, to be rebuffed by the international community anywhere whether that be in Libya, Iraq, Yemen or Syria.”

“Double standards should be excluded,” the Russian minister stressed.

At the same time, he noted that all states, without any exception, “should take the careful and respectful attitude towards historical, cultural and religious values of all peoples and clamp down on outrage upon believers’ feelings”.

According to the Russian minister, the priority is to prevent the proliferation of new threats, which have recently emerged, including radical public mood, as well as inter-confessional clashes and growth of uncontrollable trafficking of drugs, weapons and militants.

A zone, which will be free of weapons of mass destruction and means of their delivery, will have big significance in the Middle East. “Russia will continue contributing to its soonest realisation and support the LAS efforts, which will, naturally, play a leading role in convening a corresponding conference,” the Russian foreign minister pointed out.
