GENEVA, July 11 (Itar-Tass) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has named a mediator for talks with the opposition, Kofi Annan, a special envoy of the UN and the Arab League told reporters Wednesday upon the results of a briefing to members of the UN Security Council, which was held in the mode of a teleconference.

The briefing followed Annan’s return from Damascus, Teheran and Baghdad.
