MOSCOW, June 16 (Itar-Tass) —— U.N. and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, in a telephone talk with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday, agreed that it was important to work out an international approach to settle the crisis in Syria.
Annan and Lavrov discussed the prospects to hold an international conference on Syria on Russia' Initiative, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Lavrov noted that the participation of leading states of the region was important for successful work of the conference. The meeting must be aimed at stopping the bloodshed and starting a political process, in which Syrians themselves will take a decision on their state's future, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Annan agreed that it was important to work out a coordinated international approach to settlement of the crisis in Syria.
