Damascus starts fulfilling obligations under Annan plan - ambassador

The ambassador reported the steps the Syrian administration was taking to normalize the situation in the country

MOSCOW, April 3 (Itar-Tass) —— Damascus has begun to fulfill obligations under the Syrian settlement plan of UN/LAS Special Envoy Kofi Annan, Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyadh Haddad told Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Tuesday.

“There was a detailed discussion of the Syrian events. The ambassador reported the steps the Syrian administration was taking to normalize the situation in the country and confirmed that Damascus had started to fulfill the obligations deriving from the peace settlement plan suggested by UN/LAS Special Envoy for Syria Kofi Annan,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Bogdanov welcomed the decision of the Syrian authorities to take the first step and to pull out troops from towns by April 10and stressed the need for “an adequate response of the Syrian opposition and its armed groups, including their clear expression of support to the Kofi Annan plan and practical steps towards its implementation,” the ministry said.
