KHMEIMIM /Syria/, March 16. /TASS/. A group of Syrian opposition parties, movements and renowned public figures that was formed at the Hmeimim air base has selected 15 delegates for inter-Syrian peace talks under the UN aegis in Geneva, a meeting participant said on Wednesday.

The selection of delegates for the Syria peace talks in Geneva has been the main result of the group’s meeting at the Hmeimim air base also serving as the Russian Center for the Syrian Ceasefire, the meeting’s participant said.

"The event was organized at the request of internal Syrian opposition representatives who had set up an initiative group to draft a new Constitution of Syria," the participant in Tuesday’s meeting said.

"The oppositionists assumed this obligation as part of their address of March 7, 2016 to Syrian citizens," the participant said.

The group of activists is headed by Ilian Masaad, Doctor of Law and Secretary General of the National Conference Party advocating a single secular state. Masaad is a democratic activist and an official representative of the Syrian National Working Party.

The participants in the meeting exchanged information on their work for completing the drafting of a new Syrian Constitution, which, in their opinion, should ensure the existence of Syria as a single independent state and the observance of the rights of all the country’s citizens irrespective of their nationality or religious affiliation.

According to the meeting’s participant, "all those present unanimously spoke for respecting the sovereignty and unity of Syria, repudiation of any form of foreign interference, the struggle against terrorism, the preservation of state organizations, the fulfilment of the truce conditions in the areas covered by the ceasefire and the assistance of all the countries in returning refugees to their home land."
