The coalition also delivered strikes at the area where a presidential palace is located in the Yemeni capital, meeting barrage fire from Houthi rebels, supporters of the Ansar Allah movement.

Badr military camp in Aden was bombarded as rebels seized control of over the site on Thursday. Reports say street fighting is underway in several areas of the city. Supporters of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi maintain control over the port of Aden, counting on a possible help from amphibious assault landing, while rebels seized arms depots in Jebel Hodeid.

Shootouts are reported in the border area in the north of Yemen between Saudi forces and Houthi rebels. Al Mayadeen said the wire fences from the Saudi side were brought down near the settlements of Al-Mazraq and Hurd. Eight civilians were killed and 10 more injured in an air strike in the Razeh settlement. Saudi aviation also delivered air strikes at an aerodrome in the Houthi stronghold of Saada.

Crisis in Yemen

Since August 2014, Yemen has been hit by a severe political and security crisis. In late January, the armed groups of Ansar Allah (Houthi rebels) forced the president and the government to announce resignation.

The rebels later took control of the country’s capital and several northern provinces. They also announced the adoption of the so-called constitutional declaration.

Overnight to March 26, Saudi Arabia launched a military operation in the neighboring country and delivered air strikes at several Houthi positions.

Pro-government forces regained control of the Aden airport last week, while Yemeni President Abd Rabbah Mansur Hadi fled the country to Saudi Arabia. The coalition is currently considering launching a ground operation in Yemen to oust Houthis.
