Moscow satisfied with results of Iran-P5+1 talks in Lausanne

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said

LAUSANNE, April 2. /TASS/. Moscow is satisfied with the results of the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of international mediators (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany) in Switzerland’s Lausanne, which yielded key parameters of a future nuclear deal, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Thursday.

"We are satisfied with the result of this run, this marathon," he said. "The joint statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif proves that the round has produced solutions on key parameters of the future agreement," he said.

"The agreement is a unique, most complex document which is yet to be elaborated in detail. It will take time till end of June," he said. "We hope no more time will be needed and we will be able to meet the deadline."

"Before the agreement was finalized in its full volume, it took effort to agree its key parameters, to set the frames for translating the agreements into the language of technical supplements, possible understandings," the Russian diplomat noted. "A United Nations Security Council resolution is yet to be worded, without which the implementation of these measures is impossible both in terms of politics and in terms of law."

"As of today, we have benchmarks, key provisions that might be characterized as norms that will serve as a basis for negotiators of the P5+1 group and Iran at various levels, including that of experts, or a higher level, to continue work on a comprehensive agreement in the weeks and months to come," Ryabkov said.

"We have got past a very important point," he underscored.
