NEW YORK, March 13. /TASS/. Russia’s permanent mission to the United Nations seeks large-scale celebrations at the UN headquarters to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War, Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin told TASS on Thursday.
"The UN General Assembly will hold a ceremonial meeting dedicated to this date," Churkin said, adding that the meeting will be held on May 5 or on May 6 and will be attended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
"We expect our colleagues from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to take an active part," the Russian diplomat said.

"This was a very emotional meeting," Churkin stressed. "I hope that something like that will be seen this year," he added.
The celebration of the Victory Day at the UN headquarters will see a concert. The screening of films about the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War campaign against Nazi Germany is already underway.
An exhibition of war-era photos will be open between May 1 and May 15. War veterans will be invited to attend the ceremonial meeting and the concert.
