February 23 declared day of mourning in Kharkov over Sunday terrorist attack

KIEV, February 22. /TASS/. Monday, February 23, has been declared a day of mourning in the east Ukrainian city of Kharkov over an explosion that killed two and injured nine people on Sunday, the press service of the city council said, citing Mayor Gennady Kernes.

Flag on the city’s buildings will be lowered, all entertainment events will be cancelled. At 13:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time), the city will observe a minute of silence.

Earlier on Sunday, an explosive device went off during a march in the east Ukrainian city of Kharkov. The blast killed two and injured nine people. A criminal case was opened on terrorism charges. Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council Alexander Turchinov said heightened terrorist threat regime had been imposed in Kharkov and an anti-terrorist operation had been launched following the blast. He said four suspected organizers of the blast had been detained and weapons had been seized from them, including a grenade launcher.
