Ukrainian army to hold positions until ceasefire takes effect — Kiev security official

Ukrainian troops will respond with fire to enemy attacks if necessary, says the spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council

KIEV, February 13./TASS/. Ukrainian law enforcement units will keep their positions, and will be returning fire if necessary, until a ceasefire comes into effect, spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Andriy Lysenko told a briefing.

"Until the ceasefire regime takes effect we will hold our positions and respond with fire to the enemy’s attacks if necessary," he said.

Lysenko also said that the withdrawal of weapons and troops by both sides from the disengagement line will be conducted under control of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The monitoring will be both visual and with the use of drones and satellites.

The ceasefire in Ukraine’s south-eastern Donbas region is to take effect at midnight on February 15. The leaders of the so-called Normandy Four (comprising Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine) reached a relevant agreement in the Belarusian capital Minsk on Thursday.

Lysenko said that the OSCE monitoring will be conducted along the whole length of the disengagement line separating the conflict parties.
