Russian media outlets working in Ukraine’s state bodies stripped of accreditation

Russian journalists of a range of Russian media outlets in Ukraine’s governmental authorities will not have an accreditation until Kiev’s military operation in eastern Ukraine ends

KIEV, February 12. /TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament on Thursday temporarily suspended the accreditation of Russian media outlets working in the country’s state bodies.

A total of 239 lawmakers in the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the move, above the minimum required of 226.

Russian journalists, TV producers, cameramen and support staff of a range of Russian media outlets in Ukraine’s governmental authorities will not have an accreditation until Kiev’s military operation in eastern Ukraine ends.

The relevant list of Russian media outlets will be compiled by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).

The parliament has ordered Ukraine’s cabinet of ministers, the Foreign Ministry and other central bodies of the executive branch, and also the Verkhovna Rada’s press service to initiate the necessary measures within two days.

The government has to devise new rules for accreditation of journalists and support staff of foreign mass media in Ukraine within a month since the resolution, which enters into force on Thursday.

The Kiev authorities launched a military operation in mid-April against militias in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions to regain control over the territories that sought independence.

More than 5,300 people have died since the military operation started in eastern Ukraine, according to the United Nations figures, while fears grow that the real figure may be considerably higher.
