UK not to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine — foreign secretary

London will continue pressuring Russia and supporting Ukraine

BRUSSELS, February 9. /TASS/. The UK will not supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said on Monday on arrival at the EU foreign ministers’ meeting.

The UK is not planning to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, although the United States is considering this possibility, the official said.

Hammond also said London would continue supporting EU pressure on Russia and provision of maximum support to Ukraine.

UK is not the first country to react to media publications saying the Unites States is considered supplying arms to Ukrainian forces. Official representatives of France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark and China earlier also said their countries would no supply lethal weapons to Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted saying Moscow is concerned by Washington’s plans to begin supplies of modern lethal weapons to Kiev as this not only could escalate the conflict in eastern Ukraine but also threaten the security of Russia.
