EU Council decides to prolong anti-Russian sanctions through to September

The ministers said in the final statement the decision was taken in the wake of deterioration of the situation in southeastern Ukraine

BRUSSELS, January 29. /TASS/. EU Council has taken a decision to prolong the sanctions against individuals and corporations in Russia that would otherwise expire in March, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini said on Thursday after an emergency meeting of the 28 member-states’ foreign ministers.

The ministers said in the final statement the decision was taken in the wake of deterioration of the situation in southeastern Ukraine.

They also said the EU Council would continue watching the situation closely.
