MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. The speaker of Russian parliament's lower house, the State Duma, has suggested giving a juridical assessment of the US 1945 nuclear bombardments of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The speaker, Sergey Naryshkin, who chairs the Russian Historical Society, told the presidium of the Society's Council on Thursday that next year marks the 70th anniversary since the Nuremberg trial and the 70th anniversary of the US nuclear bombardments of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

"I think we should discuss this subject with lawyers - experts in international law, because crimes against humanity have no status of limitations," Naryshkin said.

"It is a generally acknowledged fact that no explanations were given of the reasons for the bombardment of the two peaceful cities from a military point of view. The nuclear bombardment of the two peaceful cities had an intimidating character, and it claimed hundreds of thousands of lives of peaceful civilians," Naryshkin said.
