Palestine plans to sign several international charters

“Now we seek to determine the nature of relations between us and Israel," member of the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee Saib Arikat said

MOSCOW, December 23. /TASS/. Palestine plans to sign several international charters, including accession to the international tribunal, chief of the Palestinian delegation at talks with Israel and member of the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee Saib Arikat told a news conference in the Russian capital on Tuesday.

“We plan to sign several international charters, including joining the international tribunal,” he noted. “Now we seek to determine the nature of relations between us and Israel," Erekat said.

A draft resolution on the creation of an independent Palestinian state may be put to the vote in the UN Security Council in days, Erekat told a news conference in Moscow.

“There is a possibility the voting may take place any moment,” he said. "Technical negotiations are in progress on the UN SC sidelines. I believe that it will be put to the vote within the next few days.”

“At the moment we may hope nine votes and a veto is not ruled out,” Erekat said.

He emphasized Palestine’s striving for peace. “The road to peace lies through the creation of a Palestinian state,” he said. “Our next step will be the signing of a number of international charters, including that on membership of the international tribunal. We are now trying to figure out the nature of relations between us and the Israeli side."
