Denmark foreign minister: sanctions likely to destabilize Russian economy extremely

COPENHAGEN, December 20. /TASS/. Denmark’s Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard says that “there’s a risk the sanctions will destabilize Russia too much.”

“The objective was never to collapse the Russian economy, in part because it will have an unimaginable social impact inside Russia, but it will also hurt the European economy,” the Bloomberg economic news agency quoted him as saying on Saturday. “The target was to put pressure on Russian decision makers.”

“We’re not adding more sanctions as time is working very much in favor of the current sanctions regime, increasing the pressure for each week,” Lidegaard said.

The sanctions could be lifted only when “the border between Russia and Ukraine to be re-established and developments moving in a positive direction.”.
