Russia makes first supply of 4 military transport helicopters to Peru

Mi-171Sh were delivered to Peru a month ahead of the deadline, the manufacturer's press service says

MOSCOW , December 2. /TASS/. Helicopters of Russia has delivered a first batch of four military transport helicopters to Peru's defence forces, the company told TASS.

The Mi-171Sh machines and technical support equipment were handed over a month ahead of the deadline specified in the contract signed last year. This was to supply 24 helicopters, eight in 2014 and 16 in 2015. After flight trials, the first machines will join December 9 celebrations for Peru's National Ground Troops Day.

These are the latest of around 100 Soviet and Russian-made helicopters supplied to Peru since the late seventies of last century. They carry up to 26 paratroopers in severe weather conditions, able to disembark at any time of day in seven to eight seconds, the makers say. New avionics and equipment have been fitted to protect personnel and maintain key onboard systems.

Peru's army already flies Mi-8/17 and Mi-24/35 helicopters. Six Mi-171Sh military transports and two Mi-35P gunships were delivered to the country in October 2011.
