Poroshenko confirms no threats uttered by Putin during their phone conversation

“First of all, I want to categorically refute absurd reports that the Russian president uses threats to me or to Ukraine in our telephone conversations", he said

BERLIN, November 30. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Sunday dismissed allegations that Russian President Vladimir Putin had voiced threats in a telephone conversation between them.

“First of all, I want to categorically refute absurd reports that the Russian president uses threats to me or to Ukraine in our telephone conversations. I do make my best to maintain dialogue because this is the only way to find a way out of this situation,” he said in an interview with Germany’s ARD television channel.

The Russian and Ukrainian leaders had a phone conversation late on Tuesday. Media reports later claimed Putin and Poroshenko had allegedly touched upon the theme of Ukraine’s relations with NATO. Some said that the Russian president uttered threats against his Ukrainian counterpart.

A short while later Ukraine dismissed these allegations. The chief of the Ukrainian presidential department of information, Irina Frits, said the media allegations of any threats were not true.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also dismissed as fiction the rumours on alleged threats by Russia. “Various reports by a number of mass media, in the first place, Ukrainian, regarding the content of the conversation are fiction and have nothing to do with the reality,” Peskov said. The leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in southeastern Ukraine, he added.
