Support grows for recognizing Palestinian people's right to create own state — diplomat

Palestine is currently preparing draft UN Security Council resolution which sets the deadline for ending the occupation of Palestinian territories, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said

VIENNA, November 25. /TASS/. The world support for recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to create their own state grows, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told TASS on Tuesday.

“Lately several states, including European countries, have made such decisions at the parliamentary level. This proves the need to take concrete steps towards settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” he said. “This shows that there is the growing understanding in the world that Palestinians have the right to create their own state,” Gatilov said.

There are no shifts in the Palestinian-Israeli dialogue, Gatilov noted. “Israel keeps implementing a policy of settlements, attempts to block Gaza, and the humanitarian situation on the Palestinian territories is critical," he said.

Meanwhile, Palestine is currently preparing draft UN Security Council resolution which sets the deadline for ending the occupation of Palestinian territories, Gatilov added. The authors of the document realize that it can be hardly approved by the UN Security Council. “Everybody understands that the resolution can be hardly passed by the US,” Gatilov said. “But this fact does not confuse Palestinians. They want to show that the majority of the international community supports Palestinians. Everyone wants the political process to be resumed,” he said.
