China, US agree on carbon emission cuts

China and the United States intend to strengthen cooperation in environmentally clean energy and environmental protection

BEIJING, November 12. /TASS/. China and the United States have agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions, according to a joint statement made public on Wednesday after a meeting of China’s leader Xi Jinping with US President Barack Obama.

The United States has pledged to cut its carbon dioxide emissions by 26-28% on the 2005 level by 2025, according to the joint statement.

China has agreed to stop increasing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and boost the share of non-fossil fuel in its energy balance by 20%.

China and the United States also intend to strengthen cooperation in environmentally clean energy and environmental protection, the statement said.
