STRELNA, March 16. /TASS/. Russia will do everything to make sure that the 2018 FIFA World Cup becomes the best, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

When asked to comment on the appeal by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to boycott the soccer championships in Russia, Peskov said that Russia is preparing for the World Cup, adding that all commitments taken by Moscow as its organizer are being fulfilled and will be met in time.

"Russia has repeatedly demonstrated that it is capable of organizing and holding the best sporting and other events. We have no doubt that the World Cup in Russia will go down in history of world soccer as one of the best championships," Peskov said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup matches will take place on 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities, including Moscow, St.Petersburg and Sochi. Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko recently said that no major problems emerged for the 2018 World Cup organizing committee. Moreover, the funding for the forthcoming championships has not been reduced despite the cuts in the budget of the state program for the development of physical culture and sports.
