Incumbent UEFA President Platini to be sole candidate in 2015 presidential election

Michel Platini will be seeking a third four-year term of office from 2015 to 2019

GENEVA, December 26. /TASS/. Michel Platini, the incumbent president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), will be the sole candidate in the 2015 elections for the post of the organization’s president as the deadline for submissions of the candidacies have passed, UEFA announced on its website on Friday.

“The cut-off deadline of 24 December 2014 has passed for submissions of candidacy for the position of UEFA President in the election to take place at the XXXIX Ordinary UEFA Congress in Vienna on 24 March 2015,” UEFA said in its statement.

“As of today, 26 December 2014, only one candidate has been announced: current UEFA President Michel Platini, who will be seeking a third four-year term of office from 2015 to 2019,” the statement added.

The deadline for submissions of the candidacies for the posts of UEFA’s Executive Committee’s chairman and vice president has been set for January 24.

Platini, 59, is a former French football player and manager. Considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time, Platini was elected for the post of UEFA president in January of 2007 and was reelected for the second term in March of 2011.
