Russian Football Union apologizes to Capello for six-month salary delay

MOSCOW, December 11 /TASS/. The Russian Football Union has apologized to Fabio Capello, the Italian senior coach of the Russian national football team, for salary delays and thanked him for understanding, the Union’s president, Nikolai Tolstykh, told journalists on Thursday.

Capello and Oreste Cinquini, the Russian football team’s general manager, have been unpaid for six months. Tolstykh claims that the Russian Football Union has no money to pay their outstanding salaries worth a total of more than 181.5 million roubles ($3.2 million) according to results of a recent inspection carried out by the Federal Agency for Labour and Employment (Rostrud).

“We really have an extremely unpleasant situation with salary delays. I would like to emphasize once again that we are apologizing to Fabio Capello and are very grateful to him for his understanding of the situation,” Tolstykh said.

“We are doing everything within our power to pay off the salary debt. It was nice to hear the sport minister and his deputies say that the problem would be settled by year’s end. I hope that persons responsible for making payments to Capello will live up to their obligations,” the president of the Russian Football Union stressed.

The Italian coach headed the Russian football team in the summer of 2012. In January 2014, Capello extended his contract with the Russian Football Union in January 2014 for four years. The Russian Football Union will have to pay 25 million euros in compensation for the early termination of the contract with Capello.
