Chelyabinsk vice-governor arrested for two months on bribery charges

The vice-governor faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine

YEKATERINBURG, March 27. /TASS/. Yekaterinburg’s Leninsky District Court has arrested Chelyabinsk Region Vice-Governor Nikolay Sandakov for two months, the court told TASS on Friday.

"On request from investigators, the court decided to arrest Sandakov for two months," it said.

The vice-governor was charged with bribery. He faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine.

Russia’s Deputy Prosecutor in the Urals federal district Yury Ponomarev took the investigation under personal control. "All necessary procedures of establishing circumstances are being carried out," the prosecutor office’s spokesman Dmitry Serebrennikov told TASS. "No additional details can be disclosed now in the interests of the investigation," he added.

Sandakov was detained on Thursday in Chelyabinsk. He was transferred to Yekaterinburg and questioned there.
