KIEV, March 22. /TASS/. Kiev expects Russia to provide official information about the fate of the son of Ukraine’s former President Viktor Yanukovich, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yevgeny Perebeinos said on Sunday.

"We have no official information. We have sent an inquiry to the Russian side and to our consulate general in Novosibirsk," he said, commenting on Ukrainian media reports about the death of Yanukovich Jr. in an accident on Siberia’s Lake Baikal last Friday. "We are waiting for a reply, for official information."

Earlier on Sunday, Russia’s emergencies ministry refuted reports about Yanukovich Jr.’s death. "There is no one with a surname of Yanukovich among those killed and injured," a spokesman for the Baikal rescue team told TASS on Sunday.

He confirmed that an accident had taken place on March 20 near Cape Khoboi, when a Volkswagen minibus with six people drowned under ice. Five passengers were saved, the driver died.

The spokesman said all those involved in the accident had been identified but their names would not be made public.
