MOSCOW, March 18. /TASS/. Motorized infantry units of the Western Military District stationed in Russia's Pskov and Leningrad Regions have been put on combat alert amid a combat readiness snap check that started Monday, head of the military district's press service Colonel Oleg Kochetkov told TASS.

The servicemen will conduct firing drills at the Strugi Krasnye and Kirillovskoye testing ranges in the Pskov and Leningrad Regions. The units are to interact with Airborne troops that are involved in the snap check as well.
The snap check in the Pskov and Leningrad Regions includes 1,500 servicemen and around 500 units of military hardware.
The surprise combat readiness check of the Northern Fleet, a number of units of the Western Military District and airborne troops began on Monday and will last until March 21.
The drills involve 38,000 troops, 3,360 pieces of equipment, more than 55 warships and submarines and 110 aircraft and helicopters. The goal is to evaluate the capability of the Northern Fleet to ensure Russia’s military security in the Arctic region.
