MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The murder of Russian politician Boris Nemtsov needs to be investigated as soon as possible, as the situation is already being used by Russia’s foes and may lead to far-reaching consequences, leader of Russia’s Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov told TASS on Saturday.
The murder should be considered as "a brutal bloody provocation against our country and every Russian citizen," Zyuganov said.
"We need to demonstrate efficiency, employ the most talented forces and urgently investigate this crime. It may lead to far-reaching consequences," Zyuganov said, adding that "all Russia’s foes will use this murder to the maximum."
The politician said there are several examples in history when large-scale conflicts started after "seemingly unrelated incidents." "It seems like sanctions were not enough, [they need] bloody victims to create disturbances in the center of Moscow," Zyuganov noted.
The Communist Party leader noted that he met with Nemtsov more than once. Zyuganov stressed that Nemtsov "was not afraid." "When he served as governor [of the Nizhny Novgorod Region], it was a time when district heads, governors were hiding, were afraid to meet. He organized a meeting, invited journalists. The talks were tough and sharp, but he was open for dialogue. It is important for a politician," Zyuganov stressed. "He went through many stages. However, his liberal views helped neither the country nor him," he added.
NEMTSOV SHOT DEAD IN MOSCOW
Russian opposition and state figure Boris Nemtsov, was shot dead in downtown Moscow overnight to Saturday with four shots from a handgun from a passing car, law enforcement agencies said.
According to preliminary data, an unknown assailant made a few shots at Nemtsov when the latter was walking along the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge.
Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the killing under articles 105 (murder) and 222 (illegal arms turnover) of the Russian Criminal Code.
