Turkish military inspection to determine scale of military activity in Russia’s south

The previous inspection carried out by Ukrainian servicemen didn't register any military activity in the region after inspecting around 15,000 square kilometers

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. Turkey’s servicemen will carry out an inspection of Russian military activity in the Rostov Region and Krasnodar Territory, director of the Russian Defense Ministry's department supervising the implementation of international documents Sergey Ryzhkov said on Tuesday. The Turkish military will inspect an area of around 14,000 square kilometers, Ryzhkov added.

The inspection is carried out in accordance with the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence-Building Measures and Security on February 17-19. The area for inspection was chosen by the Turkish military.

"This is the second inspection in 2015 conducted in Russia with the aim of determining the scale of military activities carried out [in the country] and falling under notification category or the absence of such [military activity] in the designated region," Ryzhkov said.

The last inspection in the framework of the Vienna Document was held in the Rostov Region on February 9-12. It was conducted by Ukrainian servicemen who did not register any military activity in the region after inspecting around 15,000 square kilometers.
