Twitter fails to comply with Russian legislation — watchdog

The laws include those aimed to counter extremism, Russian media watchdog Roskomnadzor says

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. The Twitter microblogging service fails to comply with Russian laws, including ones aimed to counter extremism, the head of Russia’s media watchdog said Tuesday.

"Judging by their official statistics, the social network in 2014 granted nearly 3,000 requests from the US government to disclose personal user information," Alexander Zharov of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) said.

"Out of 108 requests to disclose data on website traffic ranking of popular user accounts, sent to the social network administration by Roskomnadzor, none has been granted," Zharov said.

He said an official request to Twitter's administration to explain its position will be formulated and sent soon.
