Court to consider appeal from lawyer of mother of 7 accused of treason behind closed doors

Svetlana Davydova, a mother of seven from Central Russia, is kept at Moscow’s Lefortovo detention center in connection with her call to the Ukrainian embassy about a military garrison near her home

MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. Moscow’s Lefortovo court will meet behind closed doors on February 5 to consider an appeal from the lawyer of Svetlana Davydova, accused of treason.

"The court session will be held behind closed doors, because the case is classified as secret," the court’s press-service said.

The defense lawyer is asking the court to restore the deadlines for protesting Davydova’s arrest, who was remanded in custody at the investigator’s request. If the appeal is sustained, the appellate instance of the Moscow City Court will look into the legality of Davydova’s arrest.

Svetlana Davydova, a mother of seven children in the city of Vyazma, the Smolensk Region in Central Russia, is kept at Moscow’s Lefortovo detention center. According to media reports, last April Davydova told the Ukrainian embassy a military garrison near her home suddenly "went vacant." The woman speculated that the troops might have been sent to Donetsk.
