Roskomnadzor, Turner Broadcasting discuss resumption of CNN telecast in Russia

The parties expressed mutual wish to see the CNN television network back on air in Russia and discussed legal opportunities for that, Russia's communications watchdog says

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Russia’s communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, and Turner Broadcasting, have expressed interest in the resumption of airing the CNN television network’s programs in Russia, the watchdog said in a news release on Tuesday.

Roskomnadzor chief Aleksandr Zharov has held talks with representatives of CNN shareholders and top management. Senior Vice-president and Managing Director of Turner Broadcasting in Germany, Russia and Central and Eastern Europe, Hannes Heyelmann, CNN Commercial Director Rani Raad, CEO of the Turner Information Programs and Life Style, Tatyana Kalita, and Roskomnadzor Deputy Chief Maksim Ksyonzov took part in the negotiations.

"The parties expressed mutual wish to see the CNN television network back on air in Russia and discussed legal opportunities for that. Licensing broadcasts by Turner Broadcasting’s other channels in Russia was among other issues discussed," the watchdog said.
