Crimea decides to nationalize Krymenergo that belongs to Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov

After several power outages on the peninsula at the end of December 2014, Crimea Head Sergey Aksenov promised to take "organizational measures" against the energy company's officials

SIMFEROPOL, January 21. / TASS /. Crimea State Council has decided to nationalize the energy company Krymenergo that belongs to Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov.

The decision was approved unanimously at the meeting on Tuesday.

Krymenergo is one of the largest energy companies in the Crimean peninsula. According to official figures, the company employs six thousand people. The main objective of the company is to provide consumers with electricity in Crimea. The company services 27 thousand square kilometers.

After several power outages on the peninsula at the end of December 2014, Crimea Head Sergey Aksenov promised to take "organizational measures" against Krymenergo officials. "The company specialists did not interfere in situations in which it was necessary to make manual adjusts. Some parts of the peninsula had no light for 8-10 hours, while others had no shortage at all," Aksenov told journalists. He also apologized to the residents of Crimea for Krymenergo's work.

Krymenergo is one of Ukraine's largest energy companies.
