800,000 refugees from Ukraine’s south-east stay in Russia

Around 150,000 Ukrainian citizens have already received a Russian temporary residence permit

MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. Numbers of residents from south-east Ukraine fleeing the region after the start of hostilities and staying in Russia exceeded 800,000 now, the press service of Russia’s migration service told TASS on Tuesday.

“At present, more than 800,000 Ukrainian citizens who had to leave Ukraine’s south-east are staying in Russia,” the agency said.

From the beginning of this year, the information analytical center of the migration watchdog has been reporting the arrival of around 1,200 residents from south-east Ukraine a day on average.

“Currently more than 276,000 who came from Ukraine have already applied for the status of refugee and temporary asylum. Around 500 apply to Russia’s migration service every day. Central, Volga and Southern Federal Districts are mostly popular among Ukrainian citizens,” the press service reported.
