Russian patriotic organizations, politicians set to establish Anti-Maidan movement

“We understand all the modern challenges. We are watching the developments in fraternal Ukraine,” Dmitry Sablin, a lawmaker of the Federation Council, said

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Russian politicians and public figures are set to establish the Anti-Maidan movement so as to prevent ‘color revolutions’ in the country, Dmitry Sablin, a lawmaker of the Federation Council, said on Thursday.

Alongside Sablin, the movement’s initiative group embraces Alexander Zaldostanov nicknamed Surgeon, the leader of a club of Russian bikers called Night Wolves, the writer Nikolaiy Starikov, co-chairman of the Great Motherland party, and others.

“We understand all the modern challenges. We are watching the developments in fraternal Ukraine,” Sablin said. “Our major goal is to avoid Maidan in Russia.”

The lawmaker who is also deputy chairman of the Russian non-governmental organization Combat Brotherhood said that the movement would “stay focused.”

“We will come to any place where the opposition holds a rally,” he said, adding that on Thursday the Anti-Maidan participants would go to Manezh Square where supporters of opposition leader Alexey Navalny had planned to hold a protest action.

Anti-Maidan is due to set up headquarters, executive committee and personal membership although the movement has not been legally formalized so far, according to Sablin.

“All street riots, all color revolutions bring about blood so children, women and elderly people are the first to suffer. We have gathered to prevent it,” Sablin said, suggesting that the movement could become international in the future.

“We will present a common front to prevent color revolutions of chaos and anarchy,” Anti-Maidan said in its statement.

Along with this, Zaldostanov said the movement’s participants would stand up to their ideological opponents “irrespective of whether the authorities will allow us to do it or not.”
